Well, today was the first day of 2010 (for business purposes anyway). The goal for this year is to better communicate the strategy. And making this happen easily means streamlining the information traffic noise. This is important so that we're not waiting too long at the lights for a green GO light, or stopping at the roundabout waiting for a gap in the traffic to take off. Or, worse still, lights are blinking and everyone and noone's trying to move. Does this make sense?
It was a good feel today, I think. Staff had to do a lot of listening (and they seemed to be interested). Hopefully, tomorrow won't be such a talkfest. But it was great to share the 'stuff' anyway.
Strategy is the plan. We all know that as long as we have a plan, we know where we are going. The plan is still a draft but it gives us all a map so we don't get lost. If we do decide to take a detour, as long as we are still heading in the right direction, this is fine, (in fact, great)!
But we do need to have enough supplies for when the trip takes a left-turn (either by accident, or intentionally).
Just now and then, it is necessary to change directions completely. When the road gets too rough or seems to be leading us up the 'garden path' (off-track), doing a u-turn is fine. And as long as the plan is adaptable enough, and we don't run out of petrol, it can often be the best plan.
If the goals (and the maps) are clear enough, and there aren't too many roads confusing the navigator and driver, then the journey is going to be very exciting. The road signs and traffic cops help too. Keep your eyes on the road, take enough supplies and don't be scared to take a diversion here and there. The risks are sometimes so worth it.
Enjoy 2010. I can't wait.
I think at MacICT, it is about taking the 'road less travelled' and that will make all the difference. KL
