In 2001, Marc Prensky published the article "Digital Natives, Digital Immigrants," and I don't think he would ever have guessed how those words would be adopted by so many educators in so many contexts. It's up there with "Show me the money!" and imagine if he had received $1 for everytime it was quoted!
Marc writes: 'Although many have found the terms useful, as we move further into the 21st century when all will have grown up in the era of digital technology, the distinction between digital natives and digital immigrants will become less relevant. Clearly, as we work to create and improve the future, we need to imagine a new set of distinctions. I suggest we think in terms of digital wisdom.' M.Prensky 2009. http://tinyurl.com/avpm57
If you have ever used these words, take time to read his new article. It might give you a new perspective.
